A big thanks to the garden volunteers this past weekend: Adrianna, Toby and Roux, Patty, Nick, Richie, Steve, Violet and Matt. Hope I didn’t forget anyone… It always amazes me when work that has needed doing for months is suddenly done in hours! Not only did we clear excess material from the lot, we started constructing a greenhouse/ish thing and a kids area. We did knock off early to enjoy the rain on Saturday and the garden is looking stronger and greener for it. One other thing we did-the community produce stand has been placed at the corner of Powell and 62nd. I placed the first zucchini and a pint of Sungold tomatoes from our community plot in it on Sunday and returned today to find a pepper! The system works! This is a place for extra fruit and vegetables to be placed by not only the community garden participants, but area neighbors as well and taken by anyone who will eat it. Give, take. Enjoy.
Next work parties are BIG! Please come and help if you have any availability 10-2 on these days: Friday, August 28th, Saturday August 29th, and probably a while on Sunday August 30th if needed. We will have our second cistern to place, beds to construct and fill with dirt, lots of dry plants to trim. We can work on the greenhouse thing and the kid’s area (there will be painting opportunities).
Looking forward to seeing the garden finished, soon! The beds we are building in August will be available in February, once we’ve got water to support them. Get on the wait list now if you’d like a plot in this extraordinary community garden! (email firstname.lastname@example.org)
Also, only 2 days left to vote for the second Foster Window Project! Vote here! 230 people have already voted and we are still neck and neck!
